Rose & The Nightingale
London College of Fashion’s graduate costume show featuring the work of Ester Mnagas, Ishida Kulkarni, Maria Bruder, Jovana Gospavic, Tania Ortiz Zamorano was a big surprise; a beautiful performance with incredible costumes which took place in the Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Mixed with a dance presentation – making it more related to art and a total opposite from a commercial production, and with every designer given an eight minute slot to picture their designs in a dance performance – it went on for two well-spent hours. A very interesting part of the dance was the change in costumes: Each had an unexpected, surprising change interesting to watch., cleverly and incredibly beautifully executed.
The dance needed to fit the costumes instead of the costume fitting the dance. All the designers had to work closely with the performance artists on a professional level, and it felt as if the performers where made for their specific costume. The story of the garments also fitted perfectly with the entertainers’ appearance, moving in modern set filled with decoration pieces. An impressive show altogether.Designer: Ishida KulkarniPerformer: Simone LabargaChoreographer: Angela Woodhouse.
